Studies QuickSilver develop the
ultimate Sports system for the Porsche GT3 (996 & 997)
In 2005 QuickSilver were approached by a well known
specialist in racing and track-day Porsche, to develop a
complete ‘Carrera Cup’ exhaust system for their enthusiast
customers.
The requirement:
More Power - without sacrifices
Less Weight – to lose 25 to 30 kilos from the rear of the
car
Ease of fitment and maintenance with no loss of ground
clearance > All in a compact volume.
Great Sound - but to enable compliance with most track-day
venues – A tall order.
Probably our most ambitious project ever, requiring new
materials technology, manufacturing methods, component
integration and constant testing.
Drawing on their enormous racing experience our partner
were able to provide the technical input and testing
facilities.
This full Sports system includes:
Manifolds with equal-length primary pipes of the appropriate
bore for maximum power.
Integral 200 cpsi Race catalytic converters.
Provision for fitting of OBD2 exhaust sensors measuring the
exhaust gas composition before and after the catalytic
converters on both cylinder banks.
Throughout the development period the system was
evaluated both at our partner’s in-house test facility and
on the track. Each time refinements were included in the
overall design to create a fantastic looking and sounding
system worthy of the Porsche name.
Described in ‘GTPorsche’ Magazine October 2006:
‘Combined with an engine remap the system liberates a
further 20 bhp on the staple of 381 bhp as well as well as
gains in mid-range torque that add a subtle layer of muscle
to the power delivery’
‘The system’s reduced weight over the back axle plays an
important part in making the RS feel so alert and adjustable
at the limit’.
